Triton Stables Summer Camp was implemented to provide campers with a safe, fun and educational riding experience, for those new to horses as well as for the accomplished rider. For campers to receive the best experience out of their week at summer camp, campers must have English paddock boots. Campers may purchase boots at Fools and Horses Tack Shop in Durham, or online at Statelinetack.com. Boots do not have to be expensive. The Saxon or Tuffrider brand is perfect for campers and only cost 30-40 dollars a pair. Camp Itinerary:
-Camp check in is at 9:00 AM. Upon arrival, campers are divided into small groups based on riding ability and knowledge of the horse. Each group will dedicate time in the morning to learning varied aspects of horse care and horsemanship. Including but not limited to: Grooming, tacking and basic safety around horses. Each day these activities will be performed prior to the mounted riding lesson.
- Full-day and half-day campers ride once a day during the morning hours. The riding lesson is directed according to the child’s experience level. The child will learn skills ranging from walking, steering, trotting, all the way to navigating a course of jumps depending on prior riding knowledge.
After the mounted riding lessons, a horsemanship lesson and a small craft (time permitting) half-day campers will depart at 2:00 PM.
After 2:00 PM, full-day campers will enjoy the rest of the afternoon swimming at Triton’s beach and recreational area at Falls Lake. The water is no deeper than 3 feet, the safe swimming area is roped off and always supervised by our CPR certified counselors.
